This was my reminder to do something about it! Sadly Rene is not here to remind me anymore, and when I was thinking about her last week I promised myself I would be really organised. Let’s make it a record year for the crib. Christmas in West Deeping is going to be very different without her and I will miss her. The Travelling Crib is a collection of knitted Nativity figures that make up the Nativity Scene. Every year in December you are invited to give a home to the crib and share The Christmas Story with your family. You will get to keep The Crib for a few days and then pass it on to the next family on the rota. Your child or grandchild is able to keep one of the woolly sheep as a memento. One idea of the Travelling Crib is to get to know more people in the village. You may receive the crib or deliver the crib to people you have not met yet. West Deeping is a small village and we all lead busy lives and finding the time to get to know our neighbours is hard. There is a heart to this village and we need to maintain that by getting to know each other, or we may just become another street! So if you have children or grandchildren who would like to look after The Crib please contact Jane Ramsay, 54 King Street, West Deeping 01778 343329/07595 465682 or email: janeramsay@btinternet.com If I am out please leave your name, address and phone number.
West Deeping Neighbourhood Watch. The village has 5 Neighbourhood Watch Coordinators. Each of them receives email or phone messages from Lincolnshire Police and Community Support Officers in the local area. They pass on reports of people and vehicles behaving suspiciously, about thefts, arson attempts, road closures and so on. As well as crime prevention, they are concerned with personal safety issues like vulnerable people living alone, and fire prevention. At a recent meeting, Lincolnshire Fire Service told co-ordinators about free fire safety checks for homes, with free installation of smoke detectors where needed. For details, contact Lincolnshire Fire Service on 01522 782221 or your nearest Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator: Pat Dethick, 46A King St 01778 343096 Annie Newbigging, 43 King St 01778 346805 Melanie James, 8 The Lane 01778 380197 Maggie Ashcroft, 32 King St 01778 344768 Lesley Ward, 15 Stamford Rd 01778 345602
