Welcome to the

 Greatford Information Website

and a warm welcome to Greatford in Lincolnshire

Greatford is a small village of about 100 houses located roughly equidistant between Stamford, Market Deeping and Bourne.

We hope visitors to the village enjoy their experience (and keep the village tidy!), and we hope visitors to this website find it helpful. The various sections of this site give more specific village information. This is an umbrella website which gives information for most of the activities in the village of Greatford and provides links to other local websites.

As previous visitors will know, this website is quite a change from the previous text based website. It is still, as they say, ‘under construction’ and will develop as the need arises.

Its main aim is to provide an independent local information service to the area and ensure that you have an opportunity to get involved with it. Contact the editor@greatford.info with suggestions for articles and updates. Thank you.

The website was last updated on 21st February 2010

This 'home' page will have events taking place in Greatford, and your information page (below) from the Towers & Spires.

Jumping over the weathervane: Around 30 children and parents gathered at the playing field in Greatford on 31 January to renew an ancient tradition of jumping over the church weather vane. Removed by steeplejacks to be regilded during the current refurbishment of the Church, the youngsters took advantage of it being on the ground to leap over it. In years to come they will be able to point to the cockerel atop the steeple and say, truthfully, "I once jumped over that!" Nigel Ashby said: "The steeplejacks mentioned the tradition and I thought it was a nice idea. A couple of dozen children came along with their families and it was a good community event." He will re-gild the cockerel before it returns to its original spot on top of the spire.

Greatford Village Hall: Building work is progressing well despite the cold weather. - photos of the work will be published on the Greatford website. The playing fields are now open again, with a small area roped off for safety.

Greatford Parish Council will meet on Tuesday 23rd March at 7:30pm in the Village Hall (subject to the progress of the refurbishment) - all residents are welcome to attend. CALLCONNECT & CALLCONNECT PLUS

Lincolnshire County Council has announced a bus service "CallConnect," serving Bourne and the surrounding villages (including the five mentioned above and now "CallConnect PLUS" for Uffington or Tallington!).

The service operates Monday to Saturday (07:00 to 19:00) in response to pre-booked requests (on a "dial-a-bus" basis), and will pick up and set down at designated locations in the villages and towns served (including providing access to Bourne and Market Deeping, and NOW Stamford). CallConnect does not usually operate on routes where local bus services are already in operation except at times when there are no buses.

Anyone can use the service for any purpose (eg shopping, medical appointments, work, training etc). Users need first to register details with the Booking Centre (by phone or internet), after which journeys can be booked, again with the Booking Centre. Bookings are subject to availability (on a first come first served basis) and can be booked up to seven days in advance; same day bookings need at least two hours notice.

Tickets are purchased from the driver, and fares vary depending on the length of journey. Concessionary bus passes (available to those over 60 and to disabled people) are valid on all CallConnect services, giving free travel to the pass holder after 09:30 on Mondays to Fridays and all day on Saturdays.

The Booking Centre (0845 234 3344 - local call rate) is open Monday to Friday (08:30 to 17:00) and Saturday (09:00 to 15:00); bookings may also be made at anytime via the website www.lincsinterconnect.com
